Back to School Safety
  • Be aware of school zone speed changes.  Most school zones will clearly post the times that school speed zones are enforced.  Be sure to slow down in school zones and be on the lookout for crossing guards and groups of children.
  • School bus traffic stop laws vary by state.  Familiarize yourself with your state's laws. On 2-lane roads, all surrounding vehicles must stop when a school bus is flashing red lights. On divided highways, most states do not require drivers to stop when on the opposite side of the road from a stopped school bus.

The Lee's Summit R-7 School District and Trane have joined forces to save money for local schools while reducing the district's energy usage.  Through the R-7 School District's performance contracting energy-saving effort, the R-7 School District is completing a variety of projects this summer and into the 2010-11 school year.  On July 8, a number of rooftop Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units were replaced at a total of six Lee's Summit schools.  In all, the program includes energy-efficient improvement at a total of 14 buildings this year.  Click here to read more about the project.
